DAVID AWARD HONOREE.
EDWARD TRAVAGLIANTI
President, Commercial
Markets Group of Citibank, N.A

For Edward Travaglianti,
being an active part of the community is an integral part of his personal
and professional life.
The president of the Commercial
Markets Group of Citibank, N.A. has over three decades of experience in commercial
banking in the metropolitan New York market and he uses his knowledge and
position to be a positive force on Long Island.
"I have been very
fortunate to be in a business position which enables me to have a broad spectrum
of connectivity with businesses, with associations and organizations," said
Travaglianti, explaining that not for profits are included in the mix. "It
really runs the gamut of all of those."
Travaglianti's list of
titles and activities that benefit the community is extensive. He is vice
chairman of the board of trustees of Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola
and he is a member of the New York City Partnership board of directors.
He is a consulting director
of KeySpan Energy Corporation, a member of the board of directors of Pall
Corporation, chairman of the board of directors of The Long Island Association,
Inc. and chairman of the board of the Long Island Works Coalition.
In addition, he is chairman
of Project Long Island, a founding member of the board of directors of Cop-Shot,
and a board member of the Long Island Philharmonic.
"I've tried to connect
in balanced disciplines. I think that's really a reflection of this very
diverse and very healthy mix that we have on Long Island,Ó said Travaglianti,
who believes you can not separate the sustainable health and vibrancy of
the region. Economic and business issues affect the social, cultural and
philanthropic.
His career in finance
has always been synonymous with vigorous personal leadership in a variety
of community organizations and institutions dedicated to improving economic
and cultural opportunities in the region.
Advocacy of education
and health issues has led to Travaglianti's membership on the board of trustees
of Long Island University and to his election as chancellor of the university's
Brooklyn campus.
For many years he has
served as chairman of the board of The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health
Education, Inc. The not-for-profit organization is dedicated exclusively
to educating women of all ages about breast health. The educational programs
cover four different areas and bring foundation staff and volunteers into
Long Island schools, communities and corporations.
The programs give women the best information that is available to help them
reduce their risk of breast cancer and learn the best methods of early detection.
"At the end of the
day this is all about educating women," he said.
Working to ensure that
Long Island's blood supply is kept at acceptable levels is another area of
interest for Travaglianti. His tenure as Long Island chairman of the New
York Blood Center's 1997 and 1998 blood donor campaigns led to his former
employer, European American Bank (EAB), winning the platinum award as the
highest performing bank in the country. In 2000, the company won the outstanding
achievement award from the American Association of Blood Banks for outreach
to donors and blood donations collected.
While the commercial banking
veteran has an impressive resume and career, he recognizes that there is
always room to grow.
"Each passing day
I continue to learn a little bit more and build on relationships with people," Travaglianti
said.
Until July 2001, Travaglianti
held the position of chairman and chief executive officer of European American
Bank (EAB) and at the time of Citibank's acquisition of EAB, he was appointed
president of the newly formed Commercial Markets Group of Citibank N.A. with
responsibility for Citibank's nationwide middle market and small business
activities.
"I have personally
always felt it incredibly important to be good at what I do professionally
in the banking and the financial services business and my effectiveness has
been tempered by all the very fine people I've worked with. I have been blessed
with having wonderful people working with me. I think that is important," said
Travaglianti.
The David Award winner
resides in Lloyd Harbor with his wife and children. The lifelong resident
of the New York area was educated here as well. He received an undergraduate
degree in economics from St. Francis College in Brooklyn and continued his
education at New York University's Stern Graduate School of Business.
