This
year was a turning point for the Long Island world of charity golf events.
There was a lower than expected amount of golfers registered, a short
fall of sponsorship money and a lack of available honorees. All the events
that were held were successful because everyone came forward with new
ideas, strategies and positive brain storming at committee meetings.
Like cream, all the hard work came to the top to produce a memorable
and financially rewarding golf
season. Next year will be a breeze.
Of all the worthy
charities that hold golf events to raise money and gain awareness for
their cause, breast cancer has to stand out as one of the most active.
You can name them A to Z. There are numerous local, memorial and small
commemorative outings held throughout the season to benefit lesser known,
but equally important charities across Long Island. Not every charity
has a golf outing, but of the ones that do, what is it that makes one
more successful than the other? Vibes is the operative word here. Leave
all the negative vibes outside the office, forget the past, be in the
moment, look at everything over the financial break-even level as a success.
Your event took place, you kept the committee together, the faithful
golfers returned along with new ones, the volunteers were at the ready,
your venue club was accommodating and you have next year’s save
the date card ready. A sampling of a few of the 2009 outings resulted
in a season of 8,000 charity golfers. Looking at a diversified list of
charities, I would venture to state that 2009 was not that dreadful after
all.
I stated that next
year would be a breeze; it will be, if you get the word out to a broader
audience of potential attendees and sponsors. To help your organization
achieve this, Networking® magazine will list your event at no charge
in the Golfing Around section. A well-placed ad will also increase your
visibility and level of success. The golf outing honoree will enjoy the
exposure, the organization receives recognition and the ad sponsor can
make it happen at a minimum cost. Every charity event is important and
it is our responsibility to give our support, as a participant, a volunteer,
or monetarily at whatever level we can afford.
