ERASE Racism held their
annual benefit, A Common Thread: Celebrating People of the African Diaspora
at Carlyle on the Green. Suzy Sonenberg, executive director of the LI Community
Foundation, was honored with the Abraham Krasnoff Courage and Commitment
Award.
With the historic inauguration
of an African American president, some have concluded that this single
act has ushered in an age of post-racism. Racism, particularly in the housing
market, education and social relations on Long Island persists. Historically,
in tough economic times, discrimination increases while racial equity concerns
take a back seat. Now more than ever, ERASERacism’s research and
policy proposals must be heard.
ERASE Racism honored
Ms. Sonenberg for her role in encouraging the Foundation to take on the
challenge of addressing racial segregation and inequity on Long Island
and for her continuing support of the organization.
