Annual David Awards

Bank
of America was the presenting sponsor for the Networking® magazine’s
Eighth Annual David Awards breakfast held on January 15th. Almost 500
guests attended the gala breakfast at the Crest Hollow Country Club in
Woodbury in spite of a big snow storm!
The David Awards,
named for Michelangelo’s statue of David, the giant slayer, was
sculpted in 1504. Michelangelo’s David represents the Renaissance
ideal man.

The 2009 honorees
utilize their collective expertise to enhance the lives of those in their
communities and the whole of Long Island. The eight extraordinary men
honored were: Akram Boutros m.d., fasche, president, Long Island American
Heart Association; Frederick K. Brewington, Esq., Law Offices of Frederick
K. Brewington, Esq.; Hon. Thomas S. Gulotta, former Nassau County Executive;
special counsel, Albanese and Albanese llp, and ceo,?Executive Strategies;
Robert A. Isaksen, president, LI Market, Bank of America; Dr. W. Hubert
Keen, president, Farmingdale State College; Robert M. Pascucci, president,
Jobco Incorporated; Dr. Yacov Shamash, vice president for Economic Development;
dean, College of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Stony Brook University;
Hon. Roger Tilles, member, NY State Board of Regents.

Each honoree was introduced
by a colleague who provided an insight into his accomplishments. The
presenters were: Martha Stark, group director and senior vice president,
Signature Bank; Valerie Cartright, Esq., Law Offices of Frederick K.
Brewington, Esq.; Roslyn D. Goldmacher, president and ceo, Long Island
Development Corporation / Greater New York?Development Company; Patricia
Calcado, senior vice president, Bank of America; Dr. Patricia Hill Williams,
member, Farmingdale State College Council, former president, 100 Black
Women, chairman, Partners of the Americas; Connie Lassandro, director
of Housing and Homeless Services, Nassau County; Linda Merians, assistant
vice president for University Advancement, Stony Brook University, who
spoke in place of presenter Dr. Shirley Strum Kenny, president, Stony
Brook University, as Dr. Kenny was delayed by bad weather and Hon. Judy
Jacobs, Nassau County Legislator.

Networking® magazine
founder, publisher and ceo, Christine Conniff Sheahan greeted guests
and introduced the master of ceremonies Dr. Adrienne O’Brien, professor
of communications arts, nyit. Patricia Calcado, senior vice president
for Bank of America, welcomed guests and congratulated the David Award
honorees and their guests. The invocation was given by Sister Pat Ryan,
c.s.j., executive director, Christa House, The Jerry Hartman residence.

Since 1991, the pages
of Networking® magazine have heralded the accomplishments of women
in business. In addition, the photo stories and articles have brought
together businesses and not-for-profits as never before on Long Island.
It is through the unique Networking opportunities of each issue that
Long Islanders have been able to maximize their networking efforts to
establish long-lasting relationships. The Networking® Magazine 2020:
Guide to Going Green section of the magazine has increased our readers’ awareness
of what’s green and how to contribute to a sustainable Long Island.
